Design of a MH&A Lived Experience National Representative Body
Lived Experience organisations Changing Minds, Te Kete Pounamu, Balance Aotearoa, and Thriving Madly will collaborate with tāngata whai ora, whānau and communities around the motu to design what a Mental Health and Addiction Lived Experience National Representative Body could look like. The Lived Experience partners are pleased to work with Synergia and to be supported by the Ministry of Health.
Lived Experience does not have a joined-up and consistent national representation approach. This project is an opportunity to strengthen the change Lived Experience community can make to mental health and addiction in Aotearoa. It will consider collective representation to inform decision-makers, support accountability, improve quality, align with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity commitments, and strengthen trust and relationships between communities and the health system.
Any Lived Experience Representative Body must be inclusive of the most marginalised people and groups within our communities, and also represent the collective interests of tāngata whai ora and whānau with experience of mental health and addiction. It will recognise the strengths of Lived Experience communities and the role they play in recovery.
The design process will ask who would want to use a Lived Experience Representative Body, for what issues, and how this could be done. The Lived Experience organisations involved in this design process will engage with tāngata whai ora and whānau and use extensive Lived Experience networks to be inclusive and reach deep into Lived Experience communities. Also, we look forward to engaging with stakeholders nationally and regionally to appreciate how they might work with a Representative Body.
There is more information to be shared and opportunity to be involved. If you want to express your interest and ask questions, please contact the Lived Experience Collaborative here.
