Maternal, perinatal and early parenthood mental health | Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland
Changing Minds is supporting Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand to understand experiences of community maternal mental health services in Auckland. If you have experiences of accessing these services, or wanting to access services in Tāmaki Makaurau we’d love to find time to connect before 30 June 2025.
How would you like to share with us?
If you would prefer to share your experiences in person, we are able to provide a $20 Pak n Save voucher for your time travelling to our Mt Eden space.
Who would we like to hear from?
Anyone with maternal, perinatal, or early parenthood experiences of mental distress in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, including experiences of loss.
In particular we want to hear from you if you accessed, or wanted/tried to access community NGO services in the past three years.
Please let us know if you need an NZSL interpreter.
Why are Changing Minds asking about these experiences?
We are hearing more and more from people who found navigating maternal or perinatal mental health services challenging, or not aligned with their situation or desires for care and support. We also know that at this time in our journeys our needs and wants can look different to other experiences of distress.
This mahi has two purposes: to contribute to Changing Minds' systemic Lived Experience led advocacy, and, to inform a Te Whatu Ora review of Community Perinatal Mental Health Services.
Who sees my responses / who am I talking to?
This mahi is being led by our Engagement and Insights Manager, Megan (she/her).
She has her own experiences of distress during pregnancy and postpartum and accessed community services as part of her journey.
If you want to ask questions, or whakawhanaungatanga (get to know each other) before contributing, you can reach her directly at megan@changingminds.org.nz.
Your privacy comes first!
Your survey responses are anonymous, but you can choose to give us your contact details for a follow up kōrero.
If you prefer to use a pseudonym for a 1-1 kōrero that’s absolutely ok too!
Any information we ask for is optional.
You can withdraw at any time.
All information we collect will be anonymised (no personal names) and deidentified (details that could identify you taken out)* in all Changing Minds analysis and reporting, before it is used in our advocacy or shared with Te Whatu Ora.
*Unless you specifically ask us to include details you wish to be attributed to you.
What will happen with my contributions?
Changing Minds' report will be shared with Te Whatu Ora and their NGO maternal mental health providers and mental health teams.
Our report will be shared back to you, and Lived Experience communities to use as you wish to improve access to support and services, and for community learning.
If you have specific wishes about how your information is used (or not!) please let us know and we will accomodate this.
