He Awa Hou symbolises a new beginning, the moment when someone affected by gambling harm chooses to step into a different current. Just like a river finding a fresh course, this journey is about change, resilience, and safe passage towards wellbeing. Guided by the values of empowerment, compassion, inclusivity, and respect, He Awa Hou reminds us that no matter where we’ve been, we can navigate towards calmer waters and a renewed sense of connection.

An awa is not just a physical body of water, it is a living entity and is often seen as a life source.  It represents connection to the land, to whakapapa and to the communities along its flow.

Hou speaks to renewal, innovation and the creation of something that brings life or restores balance.  Literally, it can symbolise the restoration of vitality, wellbeing or cultural practice that could represent the collective journey of moving forward together, guided by ancestral streams while opening pathways for future generations.
