Weather Event Resources

Kia ora e te whānau.

Firstly, we want to acknowledge the friends and whānau of the four people who lost their lives in the floods here in Tāmaki Makaurau, and our thoughts are with everyone impacted by the weather over the last few days – it hasn’t been easy.

Within the team and our own whānau, we’ve had flooding, evacuations and a LOT of cleaning up to do. Changing Minds' offices are closed this week (30 January 2023) as we ensure our people and our space is safe, but we're here online and over the phone if you want to kōrero about wellbeing resources.

With more rain set to hit, it’s natural to want to feel prepared, so we have put together a list of resources we trust – places and websites you can visit if you need information or resources over the next few days. If there are any resources you think would benefit others, please add these in the comments below.

  • There is a dedicated line for impacted residents – 0800 400 100

  • Urgent accommodation assistance – 0800 22 22 00

Wellbeing support

  • If you need support for a loved one, please visit our website here: https://www.changingminds.org.nz/resources for more information on services that may be available.

  • For immediate support, please contact 1737 and remember there is also a Peer Support option available from 2pm-10pm daily.

HOW CAN I HELP?

If you want to help, there are lots of local services sharing what they need to be donated. Please share any organisations you know of needing supplies so our community know who to support. Items include:

  • Bedding and mattresses

  • Dried goods

  • Cleaning products

  • Food

  • Kids games and toys

  • Household items

TENANTS

If you are a renter, there is more information on your rights as a tenant available on the Renters United page.

Lastly – this is tough, we’ve all been through a lot over the last few months and we acknowledge this is testing us all even further. Please look after yourselves, prioritise your own wellbeing and not just everyone else’s, and take each moment as it comes.

Most importantly, stay safe.
